William Shakespeare, also known as “The Bard”, is the author of Romeo and Juliet, Othello, and many more famous plays. Shakespeare wrote many great plays, but I’ve only read two. “Romeo and Juliet” is about two people who fall in love with each other, but they have one problem--their families hate each other, so they have to sneak getting married. This leads to many more conflicts, and in the end of the play both of these star crossed lover kill themselves because they can’t live without each other. These two plays were very similar to each other but were also very different once I looked closely.
“Romeo and Juliet” and “Othello” are very similar in themes and writing style. In both of the plays a theme I found was that lying can lead to tragedies. Specifically in “Romeo and Juliet” they lie about getting married, which leads to Juliet’s father wanting her to marry another man. When Juliet is faced with this problem she goes to Friar Lawrence, the one who married her and Juliet, and Friar Lawrence gives Juliet fake poison so she will appear dead. He was supposed to tell Romeo what happened, but his letter never got delivered, so Romeo heard Juliet died, and went to Juliet’s grave. He drank poison and died instantly. When Juliet woke, she saw Romeo dead, so she stabbed herself and also died instantly.
Similarly in “Othello” two main characters die in the end. Othello also referred to as the Moor is the general of the army. Othello decided to choose
