Similarities Between Rita Dove And The Pomegranate

Food is a powerful thing. It can greatly change any family dynamic. Food brings a family closer together. For instance in my family we eat dinner every night at 6 o’clock and it allows us to share the best and worst parts of our days while sharing a meal. In the case of my family food is a positive thing.
But in some of the readings in this section that was not the case. For example the poem The Bistro Styx by Rita Dove and the poem The Pomegranate by Eavan Boland in both of these poems the food the daughters eat separates them from their mothers. In the poem by Rita Dove the element of food helps establish the setting and make the daughter seem farther away from her mother. In the poem by Rita Dove the pomegranate represents a mythical fruit
