Both Aeneas and Odysseus had a similar purpose, they both wanted to get home. Yet they are different in that Aeneas did it because a god had told him to. He did it knowing that he would be leaving the good life behind, he sacrificed his personal happiness for his duty to his people. He obeyed without a blink because it was a great honor if a god sent you on a journey. On the other hand Odysseus was not driven by any sense of duty. He himself chose to go back home. On his way home, he even left a lot of his crew behind. It also took him about ten years to get home. His journey was simply based on self-interest.
