Patrick Henry & George Mason were both from Virginia, were founding fathers, and slave owners.
They were arguing with Thomas Jefferson about Article 1; Section 8 of the Constitution which had to do with welfare clause. They were scared it would be interpreted as slaving being free.
If it were to be interpreted as that they would lose all of their slaves.
Most of Virginia population was slaves.
