Similarities Between Odysseus And Jesus

Improved Essays
In the religion of Ancient Greece, there were three Jesus–like figure, but none of the them were exactly like Jesus.
One of these figures is the most famous hero in all of Greek Mythology; Heracles, otherwise known as Hercules. Heracles was the son of the sky god Zeus, and it was written that Zeus was Heracles’ great-great-great-grandfather as well as his father. Jesus is also the son of a god and is essentially his own grandfather. Revelation 22:16 says that Jesus is both the root and offspring of David which makes him his own grandchild. Another similarity between the two is that they both came back to life after their death. When Heracles died, the gods made him the immortal gatekeeper of Olympus and a minor god for his service to the gods. Jesus also came back to life three days after he died and ascended into heaven.
The second figure in the Greek religion that resembles Jesus is Odysseus. Odysseus and Jesus were both carpenters and both made journeys to the underworld, or hell, but for different reasons. Odysseus went to the underworld to try to bring his wife back to life and Jesus died and descended into hell for 3 days before rising again. After their trips to the world below, they both return to the Earth.

They were both called the ‘King of Kings’, ‘Saviour’, ‘Redeemer’, ‘Sin Bearer’, ‘Only Begotten Son’ and ‘Alpha and Omega’. The main difference between the two is that Dionysus was never crucified and never rose from the
