Odysseus shows extreme hubris when he defeated the cyclops. Walt is different, Walt created the Beautiful theme park Disney and he didn’t brag or think he was better than others. When Odysseus was fighting Polyphemus he had already beat him and embarrassed him. During the battle Odysseus completely destroys Polyphemus’s eye and brags about it, “[Odysseus] called back with another burst of anger, “Cyclops if any man on the face of the earth should ask you who blinded you, shamed you say Odysseus, raider of cities, he gouged out your eye Laertes’ son who makes his home in Ithaca” (Fages IX. 558-562). Odysseus could have stayed calm and left without saying anything and protected his kleos, but he portrayed hubris and told his name that almost got him killed by Polyphemus’s father. Odysseus was just like the suitors being brazen back in Ithaca. Walt did not take all the credit for the ideas that Disney creates. He believed that good ideas come from everyone, “One morning while [Walt was] visiting his first theme park, Disneyland, Walt invited some third-shift maintenance workers to drop what they were doing and join him for a chat. When their manager found them talking with Walt, he asked Walt if he could have them back to finish their work before the park opened. In the same story, Odysseus wants to once again bask in his own ego by informing him of the men who his defeater was. For example, when Odysseus yells out to the world that Odysseus is to blame for stabbing Polyphemus. “Hear me- Poseidon, god of the sea-blue mane who rocks the earth! Odysseus often decides to take actions such as dealing serious damage or death. In many situations, like with the suitors, he kills all of them, just so he can once again be the king. Odysseus was the true villain between Polyphemus and Odysseus because he blinded Polyphemus for his own selfish cause. He also took many other ruthless actions, like ordering his men to sail towards Scylla instead of just deciding that going home was less important than staying alive. If he had decided to stay in safety, his men would have lived and would have been…

It describes in the text, “That was all, and it brought them round to action. But as I sent on them toward Scylla, I told them nothing, as they could do nothing”( XII.783) He was forced to make this tough decision because by telling them he would have created pandemonium and that would not have been for the best of the crew. Although it would have been easier for him if he had had someone to share the grim news with, he was compelled to keep it to himself because it was his responsibility to think of others before himself. It was apparent to the reader how many responsibilities Odysseus had solely while completing the arduous task of taking care of his crewmates. In taking care of his crewmates he was required to look after them and make sure they did not get themselves in trouble, which, especially in this mythical world in which gods and goddesses rule the fates of mortal men, proved to be challenging.…

In the epic poem The Odyssey by Homer, Odysseus is not an example of an effective leader as he does not make the best decisions and does not communicate well with his companions. One of the many characteristics of a good leader is the ability to make good decisions and Odysseus does not perform this ability well. When Odysseus and his crew arrive at the Cyclops Island, his men decide to steal some food and run back to the ship but Odysseus, however, demands to see the cyclops Polyphemus, who lives on the island. “Ah, how sound that was!…

Odysseus’s arrogance doesn’t show up all the time in The Odyssey, but his arrogance is extremely strong when it does occur. His arrogance is most present during book 9 against the Kyklops. When Odysseus has the Kyklops done with he says to him “Kyklops, if ever mortal man inquire how you were put to shame and blinded, tell him Odysseus, raider of cities, took your eye: Laertes son, whose home is on Ithica,” (9.549-542). Odysseus arrogance completely takes over him in this scene, where instead of escaping he instead taunts the Kyklops. This even happens despite the fact that Odysseus’s own men are yelling things like “He’ll smash our timbers and our heads together.…

Odysseus ' journey required him to have determination and he was motivated by regaining his kingdom and his family, and while on his quest he relied on his strength. Perseus also showed determination, but he was pushed by his pride and leaned on Hermes and Athena. While both heroes are determined, they still have many things that separate them. So, in Greek mythology and epic hero writing, though epic heroes are bound to have many similarities, they are all their own character with their own story that the author has…

Odysseus says, “’I wanted to see [the Cyclops] and claim the stranger’s gift… So we lit a fire and made our thank-offering, and helped ourselves to as many cheeses as we wanted to eat; then we sat inside till he should come back with his flocks’” (111). Odysseus is impulsive and does not think before he acts. He is very selfish and only wants to see what glory the Cyclops gives him. He expects everyone to bow down to him, let alone know who he is, contrasting Odysseus when he fights the suitors at the end of the story and receives glory from his city. When Polyphemus, the Cyclops who happens to be Poseidon’s son, returns home, he traps Odysseus and his crew in his cave.…

Throughout his journey, Odysseus relies on himself and his tricks for his own glory and fame. He announces himself in flattering ways, full of pride and self worth saying: “I am Odysseus, son of Laertes, known before all men / for the study of crafty things, and my fame goes up to the heavens” (9.19-20). The pride in his voice when he announces himself to Alkinoos, king of the Phaiakians, saturates every word he speaks. He rashly brags of his fame and reputation of being devious. When Odysseus tricked Polyphemus with lofty words into drinking the divine wine so that he can put out the eye of the cyclops and escape, he visibly delights in his own deviousness, saying “the heart within me laughed over how my … perfect planning had fooled him”(9.413-14).…
