The fictional novel, The Great Gatsby is set during the 1920’s in New York City’s, Long Island. Nick Carraway, the main character, moves to New York to gain knowledge about the bond business. Nick goes to visit his cousin Daisy, her husband Tom, and her friend Jordan. Nick finds out quite soon that Daisy and Tom’s marriage isn’t what it seems, as Tom is unfaithful to his wife with a woman named Myrtle. Scott Fitzgerald’s life, he presents various aspects of himself in numerous characters. F. Scott Fitzgerald wrote The Great Gatsby in 1924, which is also very close to the setting of the book, which is 1922. Nick Carraway and Fitzgerald share the same home, Minnesota, Nick and Fitzgerald also both attended Ivy League schools ("A Brief Life of Fitzgerald"). While in the military, Fitzgerald meets an eccentric woman and falls in love, but she didn’t marry him until he became successful. This particular scenario is more shown with Jay Gatsby, than the other characters of the novel ("A Brief Life of Fitzgerald"). Also, Fitzgerald’s wife, began having an affair with a Frenchman, and affairs are a common theme in this novel ("A Brief Life of Fitzgerald"). The Great Gatsby is a fictional novel, but so many characteristics of F. Scott Fitzgerald’s life are apparent in the story. It is impossible to say that Fitzgerald didn’t base a majority of this novel upon his own
