Similarities Between Napoleon In Animal Farm By George Orwell

When given power Napoleon along with his close comrades make indecisive and forgetful decisions that end up creating an environment similar to Mr. Jones’s. The animals in Animal Farm work very hard which is expected so they need food and that need is ignored when “Rations, reduced in December, were reduced again in February. But the pigs seemed comfortable enough, and in fat were putting on weight if anything” (Orwell,100). Characterization is used when Napoleon and Mr.Jones become similar not only with their needs but with the traits they withhold. Animals when working were expected to work their hardest but how can they do that on a empty stomach. Squealer makes everyone delusional basically because he changes how they think. In this quote we could see Mr.Jones as Napoleon because he does whatever benefits him which at that time was sleeping and for Napoleon after the rebellion is simply eating more. The greed of both Napoleon and Mr. Jones overtakes them and all they worry about is themselves since they simply do not care about events or deals that do not benefit them.This is similar to Stalin’s reign of terror when he had warehouses full of food and even train loads of food but he didn’t tell the public. The public was starving to death and were living on three hundred to four hundred calories a day while Stalin was eating as much as he wanted with no regard for anyone else. This then impacted the text because not did the quotes ultimately cause the rebellion to be put into effect but, rationing the food made animals weak to the point of their ribs showing. Overall Napoleon and Mr. Jones create a similar horrific atmosphere for the animals they put themselves in charge
