The Persecution
Napoleon was running the hill down; dogs were behind him, waiting his commandments. The dark sky was showing that a storm was to come. Snowball was running as well, his legs were tired, however his life depended on that.
The fat pig, Napoleon knew that he could not run more than that, so he stopped and turned to his followers. “Comrades, I give you carte blanche to catch Snowball; I just need him alive, bring the pig to the cabana near to the lake. I will be there waiting for you”.
The dog´s eyes were shining with expectation, they were almost jumping of happiness because of the opportunity to help their master. When Napoleon gave them carte blanche, they could not stop in their places, so the pig let them go after Snowball.

He quickly got up, in alert. What he saw was surprising, Napoleon was sitting on a table, eating apples and drinking milk, animals’ milk!
“Snowball, you finally got up.” He said, smiling, “Come on, sit with me and have a meal.” Snowball did not what to do, so he got up and sat in the table in front of Napoleon, “Bon appétit” He said, smiling again. “I have a proposal for you.” Snowball bend to listen Napoleon clearly.
“Quid pro quo” He said, Snowball was ratiocinating, trying to understand what Napoleon wanted “You can continue commanding the farm with me, however, you will have to shut your righteous mouth and steal food with me” Snowball was shocked, never in a million years he thought that someday he would listen that propose.
“I cannot do this.” Snowball said he really could not; his beliefs did not let him do that. “Why cannot you?” Napoleon asked puzzled. “Commanding in pair is not like this, is a pas de deux, we would have to support each other, I could not stand all of your lies and injuries to the animals.” Snowball started to say all that he always wanted “ I have my beliefs and I will not break them, if I was a commandant, I would do what is right to our people, not what is better for

Napoleon pushed his men; he pushed them beyond their logistical means and diminishing physical capabilities which were exacerbated due to lack of rations and supplies. This mistake in judgement for Napoleon as articulated by Gompert et al, “Napoleon did not dwell on how vastly different war in Russia would be compared with the wars that formed his experience and conditioned his thinking. Intuition is no match for unfamiliar situations. Evidently, self-doubt and reflection were as difficult for Napoleon as humility was” (46).…

Similar to Phillip Dwyer’s idea, Paul Stock presents the possibility that Napoleon interpreted himself in such a way that the world would have to see him as a “savior” like individual. However, unlike Dwyer, Stock addresses that what allowed “Romantics to appropriate Napoleon for themselves is the inconsistency of his image creation” (Stock 20). The Romantics had an idea of Napoleon, but used their own interpretations to mold how they viewed him. Unlike Dwyer, who portrayed that Napoleon used propaganda to have individuals blindly respect him, Stock has brought about the idea that Napoleon was viewed as a hero due to viewing different interpretations due to the inconsistency of how they have seen him. Napoleon himself “was so preoccupied with using circumstances to fashion his self-presentation, that he could not achieve any stability of image” (Stock 20).…

His blind devotion towards Napoleon only increases the destruction of freedom and equality when Boxer, “caught a dog in mid-air, and pinned him to the ground […] looked [towards] Napoleon to know whether he should crush the dog to death or let it go” (83). Napoleon caused pain to the other animals by using violence such as the dogs which breaks freedom and equality; however, despite this, Boxer listens to Napoleon’s orders. The rise of a rebellion against Napoleon was not impossible, but with Boxer’s devotion to him, it seemed to be. Even after Boxer’s obvious death, the two maxims he constantly used “I will work harder,” and “Comrade Napoleon is always right” were manipulated into words of motivation for the animals (125). With Boxer’s usual motivation, all of the things changing did not seem strange to the other animals, yet those changed items slowly but surely broke the freedom and equality.…
