In these stories, the protagonists both have similarities in their appearance in the way that they are much different than those around them. They are similar because they both rely and stay close to a person in their lives. In Metamorphosis, Gregor relies on Grete, his sister, to bring him food and care for him. His mother also helps him by, with the assistance of Grete, move furniture out of his room to leave him more space to crawl around. In The Invisible Child, Ninny relies on Moominmamma to help her. In the story, it states that “They became accustomed to seeing her pink dress marching along behind Moominmamma.” Ninny trusts Moominmamma to help her in all her needs. Moominmamma made her bed in the attic, feeds her, and even knitted the pink dress that she wears all the time. Moominmamma also tries to make her visible again by using a remedy that her grandmother said would heal a person that is fading
