Was the education of kids today the same as their parents many years ago? For Mawi and Haileab their education was the only reason they succeeded in their life. Education is different for different people in different areas of the world yet sometimes there can be some similarities. Some of their learning varied from each other and those differences lead them to choose different paths to get where they are right now in education. They both had crooked parts in their paths but also had some clear ones. Some parts in the path were the same even though the paths were from completely in different times, their love for reading as well as their thirst for knowledge, as well as rising to the top.
Haileab education was tough and he faced many challenges, despite this he rose above others. As a kid he had no one to support him, “His father died shortly after his birth, and soon after his birth, and soon after that, his mother grew sick. She could not care for him,” (85) these tragic events forced him to move to a monastery where he took part in religious chants... They both read and studied a lot for things that were important to them during their education. During Haileab’s learning period, it was brutal and many difficulties came at him just like it did to Mawi. What was unique about Mawi’s education is that he had his parents to guide him through his learning and used them for help when he faced challenges.
