Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. reflects on the government’s broken promises to African Americans and expressed his hope that they will eventually “do the right thing.” Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. grew up in a very loving and safe home, with all of his family, he grew up knowing the “golden rule” which is to do to other people, as you want done to you. This “golden rule” means if you want to be treated in a certain way, treat others the way you want to be treated and they will treat you the same. This influenced King in the Civil Rights Movement, because knowing how to treat people right is a lesson for you to learn right from wrong. This message helped build Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s persona by teaching him to know his own rights and wrongs, he would also know other people’s rights from wrongs. Malcolm X advocated for segregation rather than integration because the “white man” would never fully accept African Americans into their social, political, or economic circles.
