The characters Malcolm and Macbeth are similar because they both demonstrate drive and ambition. Ambition is a strong desire to do or achieve something which requires much determination and hard work. When comparing the two, Malcolm is the sensible one. He has a pause button and is able to control his ambition and resist temptations, such as being pulled into bad situations. Macbeth, however, is incapable of this, he has no off switch and will not rest until his ultimate goal is achieved. Although Malcolm and Macbeth posses similar qualities and characteristics; such as ambition and courage; the reader learns through their actions and how these characteristics were used just how different they really were. Shakespeare’s characters also demonstrated weaknesses; however, there was a significant difference between ways of handling and dealing with their struggles.
