Similarities Between Macbeth And The Jungle Book

C.S. Lewis states, “We read to know we’re not alone.” Many books throughout the centuries are prime examples of Lewis’ statement. Reading is an escape from reality for readers to know that there are other people who are just like them. Although these characters are not genuine, they have many of the same characteristics as people in this physical world. Two stories that portray this idea are “Macbeth” by William Shakespeare and “The Jungle Book” by Rudyard Kipling. Readers of “Macbeth” associate Macbeth’s name with negativity. It seems as if Macbeth is a greedy tyrant at first glance, but there is much more to the situation. Lady Macbeth represents sin and temptation, which really brings out the dark side in Macbeth. It is human nature to strive for greatness and fall into sin and temptation. Macbeth says, “Stars, hide your fires; let not light see my black and deep desires.” Macbeth knows that his desire to be King is leading him to do deep and dark things. Little to no people can say that sin and temptation hasn’t (contraction) caused them to do something obscure, Macbeth’s sin and temptation just enhanced his actions into something malicious. …show more content…
Over time Mowgli learns the dos and don’ts of the jungle by the friends he has made. In reality everyone wants to be protected, we all want to have friends that look at us as family and stick with us even through the hard times. Mowgli says “I have the Pack and I have thee; and Baloo, though he is lazy, might strike a blow or two for my sake. Why should I be afraid?” The previous quote shows how Mowgli feels protected by Baloo and that he is no longer afraid because he knows that Baloo has his back. Mowgli eventually has to leave the jungle and everyone in it behind, but that does not mean he will not remember and hold closely all the memories he made with
