Improved Essays
Idi Amin and Macbeth were both very similar characters, the only difference being that Macbeth was a fictional character and not causing distress to real people. Idi Amin was the President of Uganda from 1971-1979 and killed about 300, 000 people during this time. Before performing a military coup on the previous President, Amin had been rising through the military ranks but was soon going to be arrested for misusing army funds. Furthermore, Macbeth had started the play has the Thane of Glamis, quickly rising and becoming the King. It was how much he desired becoming the King that resulted in the killing of his friends and their family. Therefore, Idi Amin and Macbeth had very similar methods that were used to become a leader.

Macbeth had made many decisions that only a few weeks before, he would not have imagined making. For example, when talking to Seyton, his servant, Macbeth says “it is a tale/Told by an idiot, full of sound and fury” (5.5.28-29). Macbeth fully believes that his time as the King was a mistake because in the span of only a couple of days, he had managed to murder many of his friends and their family while also driving himself insane. He was hallucinating and becoming more self-destructive as the play continued onwards. Starting with thinking that there was a dagger pointed towards King Duncan’s room before murdering the him. Moreover, after becoming King, he became obsessed with the prophecies from the three witches and deteriorated as a leader quickly. All of the people who had served under him had left him when Macduff, Malcolm and their armies came to attack their castle, something loyal servants would have stayed and assisted in protecting their home. Therefore, Macbeth was King for only a few days and that was still enough time for him to become distrusted and hated by his people.

To conclude, Idi Amin and Macbeth are alike in the ways that they ruled and took care of their country and people. They both became widely disliked and had many people leave them because of how distrusted both Amin and Macbeth had
