Similarities Between Macbeth And Fidel Castro

William Shakespeare’s play, Macbeth, exudes multiple lessons and represents many leaders in today’s society. His play shows the result of what happens when an overly ambitious leader gets stuck in way too deep. In many ways Cuban leader, Fidel Castro, resembles Shakespearean character, Macbeth. Fidel is widely known for bringing a communist government to Cuba, his use of guerilla warfare tactics, and the Bay of Pigs invasion. His way of running Cuba shaped the country into the power force it is today. The two share similar traits when it comes to leading their countries and living their day to day life. Greed, family, and corruption often lead many people to do behaviors that are outside of the norm. Castro attained power as the Prime Minister of Cuba on February 16th, 1959; however, that was not enough for him. Much like Castro, Macbeth was known as the Thane of Glamis, although he had attained a high position in Scotland that fell short of his needs once he was informed by the witches that he could be king. From the play Macbeth portrayed loads of ambition. From his mission to become King, Macbeth had to kill King Duncan, Banquo, and Banquo’s sons. From the very beginning of this play he took many steps to get the position he desired. Macbeth had to be determined and wanted this role bad in order to kill his own family and friends. Fidel did kill thousands of people; however, it was not his own family that was hurt in the process.
