Julius Caesar and Abraham Lincoln were both tremendous leaders during their time. There are several similarities between the two men. For instance, both men had military backgrounds in their younger years. Julius Caesar and Abraham Lincoln each made a significant impact on their countries with their political ideas and desire to help the people. The most important similarity that people think of when they remember them is that each of these great leaders was assassinated. When we think of Julius Caesar and Abraham Lincoln we are reminded of their military, political accomplishments, and the horrible way in which they died.

In 48 B.C., Julius Caesar became dictator for life in the Roman world. He successfully transformed the Roman Republic into the Roman Empire during his rule. He participated in military service. He served as the 16th president from March 4, 1861 through April 15, 1865. During his early years, President Lincoln’s military background included registering to take part with the Black Hawk War in 1832. He was also the leader of a battalion known as the Illinois Militia. During his time as president, he is renowned for his pursuit of equality for the blacks in his desire to give them the right to vote and for freeing the slaves. The Civil War was a result of his effort to give slaves their freedom. He was assassinated by John Wilkes Booth at the Ford Theater. Booth shot the president in the back of his head; he died the next day. John Wilkes Booth was opposed to the authority that President Lincoln possessed because he knew that President Lincoln was looking to use his power to suspend the constitution in order to be able to give blacks the right to vote; Booth was also against freeing the slaves.
