Kamehameha was an effective leader because he was intelligent. He participated in the fur trade even though Hawaiians did not want fur. He traded other items in order to gain more food, weapons, and materials. Foreigners greatly enjoyed stopping at the Hawaiian islands because it was on the way to their destination.
