Similarities Between Julius Caesar And Abraham Lincoln

In July 100 B.C., a roman general, leader, and dictator was born. His name is Gaius Caesar, best known as Julius Caesar. But 1,900 years later, another man with the same titles as Caesar came along. He is Abraham Lincoln. Who is Julius Caesar and Abraham Lincoln ? What are the similarities between them ? How are they different ?

Julius Caesar was born in Rome, Italy to Gaius and Aurelia Caesar. His dad, Gaius Caesar, died when Julius was sixteen. Even though his family was not rich, they had patrician roots. At age eighteen, he married Cornelia, the daughter of a nobleman. After Cornelia death, he married Pompeia and later on Calpurnia, who he remained married for the rest of his life. Thomas Lincoln and Nancy Hanks Lincoln were his parents and he had two siblings. His first love was Ann Rutledge, who died at the age of twenty-two because of a typhoid fever. He remarried again to Mary Todd, who he had four children with. In 1834, Lincoln not only began his political career when he was elected as the state legislature of Illinois, but he also decided to become a lawyer. Twenty-three years later, a controversy occurred at the Supreme Court, known as the Scott v. Sanford. It declared that African Americans were not citizens. Lincoln believed that all men were created with certain rights which is why he challenged Senator Douglass for his seat. Even though he lost, it open the door for Lincoln to enter the politics. After losing five elections to the presidency, Lincoln finally became the 16th president in March 1861. During his presidency, he announced his Emancipation Proclamation and successfully prosecuted the Civil War to preserve the nation.
