Similarities Between Jewish And The Babylonian Religion

Christianity as we know it today has been influenced by many religions and cults during its rise in popularity and power. Christianity comes from Judaism, so of course it will have some of the same stories and values that the Jews had. Judaism was also influenced by Babylon during its Captivity and we can see some similarities between them. Some cults like the Cult of Mithra helped Christianity gain popularity among the low class people of the Roman Empire. Even though many stories, practices and values come from different religions the main reason of Christianity doesn’t change and that is the good news of Jesus Christ.
The creation of our universe is a big topic that many religions and civilizations argue about. Every religion has their own view on how everything was created and how mankind was

During the Babylonian Captivity between the years of 587-538 BC the Jewish people were now living in Babylon and at one point the scribes of both the Jews and the Babylonians shared and passed information to each other (Styles, Powerpoint). Both had different views on Creation so each told their story and it is believed by many people that they took the ideas from one another, changed it up a little bit and put it in their story. So both were huge influences to each other. The Jews called their story the “Creation Story” and the Babylonians called it “Enuma Elish”. A similarity in both stories is the appearance of the number six (Styles, Powerpoint). In Genesis 1 it says that God created everything in 6 days and on the seventh day he rested (Genesis 1). In “Enuma Elish” there are many gods and the leader of the gods commands the six generations of gods to have dominion over everything (Enuma Elish). Each god was in control of something and the order they placed the gods was the same order the creation week was put. It could all be just coincidence or they both agreed that something was similar to their stories.

The beginning of the world and human existence have always mystified people. Human nature compels human beings to understand, put things in order, and explain the unexplainable. In ancient times creation stories answered the questions that confounded and bewildered the people living in those societies. Modern science and technology did not exist to help; no scientific experiment could be performed. Ancient societies used myth instead of analysis to answer the questions of existence and purpose; the creation stories were their truths.…

As Gordon H. Johnston mentions in his article “Genesis 1 and Ancient Egyptian Creation Myths”, he believes that Genesis 1 has affinities with Egyptian creation myths rather than with Babylonian creation mythos Enuma Elish since he found Genesis 1 does not mention any hint of divine conflict between God and the primeval waters, as well as Enuma Elish (Johnston 179). In my opinion, I think Johnston’s claim is feeble because he makes his conclusion since he merely identified few differences without any practical analysis. Therefore, it arises my interest to discover the real contact among Genesis 1, Babylonian creation stories, and Egyptian creation myths.…

The Popol Vuh opens by telling how the multiple Mayan gods created the Earth, everything it is composed of, and how they later create beings capable of worship. In Genesis, one God is responsible for the creation of everything, the most important being mankind. The Popol Vuh and Genesis are so similar that the Popol Vuh is sometimes thought of as a Mayan take on the Bible. The most paramount similarities are explaining the origin of humanity, illustrating the consequences for not following the rules set by the gods or of God, and the creation of everything on Earth.…

Genesis says that God created the heavens and the earth, but in the next few verses the distinction is made between the sky and the heavens. This distinction is made when God creates a “vault” to separate the water from the water, which created the sky in between these two sets of water (Genesis 1). In the Native American story the touching of sky and water caused the creation of the First World (Navajo Creation Story). In the Christian tradition the end of God’s six days of creation signified the creation of Earth and of the Garden of Eden (Genesis 1). This is important because both of those locations were considered holy places and were signified as perfect.…

Christianity and Judaism while they are two different religions also have some very similar concepts. They both believe in the same God, they believe that there is only one God, they both believe in and study the Old Testament, as well as other common themes in both religions. Some of these similarities are due to the fact that “Christianity began as a sect of Judaism in the first century C.E.”(Hopfe, pg. 203). But Christianity and Judaism have some vast differences as well. Throughout this paper I will be discussing the differences between Christianity and Judaism, as well as some of the similarities that they share.…

Others that believe in the Big Bang Theory will most likely believe that the universe was created by accident. “God created the universe out of nothing and made it in such a way that it operates with a uniformity of cause and effect in an open system.” (Note that the phrase “open system” means that God is able to work miracles in the created order, which would override the normal operation of cause and effect.)”…

In the bible, God started the first day by creating light, quoting Genesis 1:3 as God said “Let there be light.”. The religion of Christianity came after the religion Buddhism, so some of the concept that base the Christian religion are more than likely borrowed. Astronomers believe that our universe was created roughly 13.7 billion years by a single singularity in which expand into the universe we live in today. This theory is know as the Big Bang theory. It's the belief that before 13.7 billion and a single singularity there was no matter, no energy, and no space within our universe; and then an immensely small hot, dense mass expanded forming everything we touch, breathe, and explore in today's universe. This theory was first proposed in the 1929, when astronomer Edwin Hubble discovered the Doppler effect in which measure the speed of how fast astronomical objects move toward or away from Earth. Through, Hubble's discovery astronomers learned that galaxies are steadily moving apart from each…
