The Jedi order has Masters and Padawans, the purpose of this relationship is for the Jedi Master to pass their knowledge of the force and principles of the Jedi down to the Padawan so that they may one day become a Jedi Knight and take a Padawan of their own. There are countless Jedi with countless Padawans throughout the galaxy and this has caused the Jedi order to be very large in number and strength. The Sith have a similar relationship having a Master and an Apprentice, among more modern Sith, like those seen in the movies the Sith follow the Rule of Two established by Darth Bane. The Rule of Two states that there can only be two Sith at any given time, a Master to hold the power and an Apprentice to crave it. Through this system the Sith Lord teaches the Apprentice everything they know and once everything has been learned and the Apprentice becomes more powerful than the Master they must strike their Master down, take their place as Dark Lord of the Sith, and begin training their own Apprentice. The Jedi require memorization of the Jedi code, construction of a lightsaber, and proof of connection to the force. The memorization of the Jedi code is straightforward, the construction of the lightsaber using a crystal provided by a Master is very important because that weapon is theirs and only theirs and is symbolic of their position as a member of the order. Finally the trainee must confront the darkside by going somewhere filled with darkside energy and overcoming it. The Sith are put through similar trials first having to memorize the Sith code, constructing a lightsaber, and finally making a sacrifice of someone dear to them. The Sith code memorization is very straightforward just like the Jedi code. The construction of the lightsaber differs however because the Sith use artificially created red crystals that are more powerful than the crystals used by the Jedi. Finally to prove their dedication to the order and willingness to do what must be done they must slay a teacher, friend, or family member they hold very dear. The Jedi and Sith hone their force powers during their training and because of their alignment are only allowed selective powers. For Jedi the powers they are allowed are far more passive and not to be used for killing while the Sith take full advantage of the power of the force and use it to attack just as they would a lightsaber, trying to kill the
