One book that is included on the banned book list is James and the Giant Peach by Henry Selick. The book is about a boy named James who, after the unfortunate death of his parents thanks to a rhino, is forced to live with his cruel aunts- Spiker and Sponge. For years, James, who was merely 4 when he moved in with his aunts, was starved, beaten, forced to sleep on the floor in the attic, and treated like a nuisance. One day, James was given a potion by a strange man who tells him it will bring him both happiness and adventure. At night, after everyone has left the peach, James is forced to clean up trash left behind but discovers a secret room inside of the peach. Within the room were a gang of human-sized bugs- a grasshopper, a ladybug, a glo-worm, a silkworm, a centipede, a earthworm, and a spider- who were also transformed by the magic. The centipede bites the stem of the peach which sends it rolling down the hill and through the town. Eventually, it lands in the ocean where they ‘sail’ for days. It is soon surrounded by sharks and they escape by tying 500 seagulls to the peach and flying away. They float for days and soon float all the way into New York City where various emergency vehicles are waiting to view the flying peach.The peach gets impaled on the tip of the Empire State Building and the seagulls are let loose. James tells his story to those who came to see the peach and explains that the bugs inside are not monsters like everyone thought. The peach is then lowered to the streets and
