I believe that the reason people followed them both Jack and Jim Jones was because of the great things they promised. Protection, equality and happiness are sometimes very hard to find and obtain but with Jack and Jones it was reachable. Jack hid behind the terror of the Beastie and advertising the protection against it. The “Beastie” was an imaginary beast that Simon was later to find out was actually the savagery that each person was capable of. Ironically, Jack promised his group protection from it by offering the head of the each pig they caught. Jack also offered equality to the littleuns by giving them jobs that the biguns were allowed to do. Similarly, in a time were equality in skin colour was highly frowned upon; Jim Jones offered
