Babylon and Hebrew
Before Christ, two major organizations were created which also set the tone for the emergences of civilization. Hammurabi being the leader of Babylon while Moses led the Hebrews, both men created regulations to keep their cultivation within peace. Even though both superiors had a similar goal which was to maintain a well-structured organization, both men differ in the tactics and level of importance of their principles. However, both establishments looked at their overseer as values of their development and traditions and had some resemblance when it came to certain codes. Both civilizations placed individuals into slavery as payments for debts, although the Hebrews had a requirement to serve six years while the Babylonians only required three. Considering a man committing the same crime but within the different cultivations, the civilian from the Hebrew society would serve more time being enslaved compared to citizen from Babylon. Both societies believed that controlling sexual relationships were important because it was a way to control family dynasty. In both societies, they believed that a woman could avoid divorce by allowing her husband to have children by a “slave girl.” Lastly, both societies had parallel views on sexual fidelity in marriages. Hammurabi’s law 153 states, “if a woman has procured the death of her husband on account of another man, they shall impale that woman,” while Deuteronomy 22:22 reads, “if a man is found lying with the wife of another man, both of them shall die.” Both societies strongly believe in punishing the woman while the man would also be punished within the Hebrew society more so than the Babylon’s.
