Similarities Between Hamlet And The Lion King

Hamlet is a play written by William Shakespeare about a kingdom in the early centuries. It has many similarities and differences with the 1994 children’s movie, The Lion King. The Lion King and Hamlet are both about a tragedy of the son’s revenge with many similarities and differences. However, Hamlet has a tragic ending and The Lion King has a happy ending.

Hamlet is a movie about a king’s son, Hamlet, born into royalty. The king dies in the beginning of the movie, but no one knows the exact mystery of his death, according to William Shakespeare (act 1). At this point, Gertrude, the king’s wife and Hamlet’s mother, begins to see love in her husband’s brother. His name is Claudius. Claudius and Gertrude marry,(act 1) and Claudius becomes the new king.

Claudius poisoned his brother by pouring the liquid poison into his ear while he was asleep to make it look like a natural death.- William Shakespeare’s book, Hamlet,(pg.33-37). Another difference is that Nala does not die in The Lion King,according to the youtube video. Nala is Simba’s crush. Hamlet also had a crush named Ophelia, who dies because she drowned in water,William Shakespeare’s book, Hamlet,(act 3). The movie Hamlet takes place in Denmark, while The Lion King takes place in Africa. Another difference is that Scar, Simba’s uncle, did not marry his mom, Saraba.

In conclusion, both of the movies are different in many ways, but they still have the same plot. Each of the movies are tragedies that makes it fun for the whole family to watch. These stories are alike in many ways in characters. Uncle Scar and Claudius are alike, Gertrude and Saraba are alike, and Hamlet and Simba are alike.
