Essay #1 There are many different connections between the Haitian revolution and the French Revolutions. In fact, the events from the Haitian revolution even resemble the events that transpired a few years prior in France. Back in 1789 the French population, from nobles to peasants, stood up against their government to attempt to overthrow their social and political systems and force change. They used violence and peaceful protest to do so. Although their revolution was based off of the principles of human rights, eliminating corruption in the government, and reforming an ineffective government, they had lost control of it. These ideas where the stepping stone of the Haitian Revolution, and they got these ideas from the Declaration of Human the Rights of Man. These beliefs lead to the beginning of the slaves rebelling, and eventually to the emancipation of slaves. In the end this brought the Haitians their independence from France.
The ideas from the French revolution were universal and had directly connected to the situation in Haiti and had brought along the events that took place in Haiti. The ideas from the French revolution that were used during the Haitian revolution that are universal are equality, citizen representation in the government, eliminating corruption, human rights, and fixing an ineffective government. As shown by Haiti these universal ideas are so basic that they could be used as the foundation for a revolution in any country. Without all the changes that were happening back in France, the revolution in Haiti could never have taken place. The leaders of both the French and Haitian revolution leaders had understood the importance of equality and democracy. They knew that everyone needed to be legally equal to each other and that they needed a stronger more effective government that was for the people, they needed a
