Frederick Douglass and Abraham Lincoln embody heros because they underwent many challenges in order to fight for liberty and freedom for all. The journey to freedom and liberty was treacherous for Lincoln and Douglass, for example, Douglass attended an abolitionist convention in Nantucket in 1841 at which a man named William C. Collin encouraged him to speak. However Douglass strongly opposed, revealing that, “the truth was, I felt myself a slave, and the idea of speaking to white people weighed me down” (SB pg 72).
