Society is largely based on values. Values are a person's standards on behavior, and what traits they believe are important to demonstrate. Different cultures represent and find certain values more important and are more prominent in their society. Cultures important heroic values can be seen through the cultures stories and heroes. An example is intelligence. Beowulf demonstrates intelligence by distracting Grendel before he attacks. Similarly, Donatello shows intelligence by teaching himself defense and always having a will to learn new defence. Bravery is another traits the two heroes share. Fighting Grendel, a dangerous monster, then Grendel's mother, makes Beowulf extremely brave. Donatello is brave because he never hesitates to interfere with an villian. Without being brave, the two cities these heros live in would have been left to even more devastation. Finally, both heroes are loyal. Beowulf is so loyal to his king and the citizens that he defeats not one, but two monsters. Donatello is loyal to his sensei. He always goes to him for advice rather than anyone else.
