In the story the evil swirling darkness was in the town of Joplin Kansas near the border of Missouri which states on page 6. Bennett was having a 11th birthday at his grandparents pool. The setting is at Bennett's grandparents house in Joplin Kansas. The setting is different for Death Valley. Death valley is the hottest place on the Earth according to the lead of the story. On page 6 it says the vast salt flats and snow dunes. Sizzle in the sun on the valley floor. The temperature and the setting are unlike any other setting in the united states as temperatures soar near to 120 degrees. In the conclusion these two stories are different Joplin Kansas is a city where the characters were hanging out at the pool. While in Death Valley the characters were stranded in one of the hottest places in the
