Have you ever had that friend or family member that just always stood out from everyone else? The one that always seemed either very happy or extremely depressed or maybe just a little distance from others. Well, more than likely they probably are sick with some mental disorder. Even though it is common now that people have and are being diagnosed with mental disorders, it was not a few decades ago. If fact it was overlooked, or they would say that the person was possessed. Both of this disorder are caused by the unknown, but it is being said that genetics and environment and chemical imbalance in the brain do play a role in these. Lack of pleasure and difficulty making decisions are traits that can are seen in both disorders. While a person is in the depression phases (low) of Bipolar, they will show similar signs as Schizophrenia-like difficulty focusing and detaching themselves from others. Jumping from one idea to the next is seen in the manic phases of Bipolar as well as in Schizophrenia. Bipolar is primary a mood disorder as on the other hand schizophrenia is a psychotic disorder. Bipolar disorder is a series of highs and lows or manic and depressive moods a person can have that last anywhere from a week to months at a time. Where schizophrenia is mainly diagnosed in men rather than women and involves delusions and hallucinations. Doctors have found that if they give the patient an MRI it can help distinguish between the two by the different brain patterns and where the pattern are in the brain. Individuals that have bipolar tend to behave and manage their symptoms so they can function properly in the outside world as with people with schizophrenia have a harder time doing this. Schizophrenia can make people see, hear and believe things that are not true, and that is why it is difficult for people to function properly without help from an outside source. Even though individuals that have bipolar function better with medication and therapy they tend to stop the medication because they do not like feeling like a zombie. This is the most common reason they stop treatment and learn to live without it. In some cases, people with schizophrenia will have delusions of someone telling them they do not need help, so they discontinue the medication that they need to live an ordinary life.
