Similarities Between Beowulf And Jesus

After reading Beowulf, I realized that there were a lot of similarities between him and Jesus. Not only did they happen to look similar, but their actions towards their people were very similar as well. From the way that they acted to the way that they looked, there were a lot of similarities. The people that were in the story of Beowulf needed him just as much as the people during the time that Jesus was alive needed Jesus. Beowulf was known as a savior to the people. He saved many people from a horrible monster who was named Grendal. Grendal would attack the people whenever he was irritated with the noise that they made at night from their parties. While attacking the people, he killed many in the process. After the attack, they king,

The Christian symbols and representations apparent in Grendel, his mother, and the parallel between Heorot and the cave are balances between good and evil. A brief history of the poem is offered due to the fact that the reader should know why the second part of the poem is so debatable. By looking at the fight with the dragon and Beowulf’s pride it is obvious that there was a shift from the Old Testament to the morals of Christian ideology and of Beowulf’s beginning to his end. He fought in a society where fighting was life. He began a hero fighting evil and died with pride in fighting.…

The Final Contrast I’d like to draw between these two heroes is their family, in epic poems often the hero comes from nobel background, this is true for both Odysseus and Beowulf though the situations of those families, are not necessarily the same. Odysseus was the son of King Laertes, a respected ruler of his home country of Ithaca. Being the son of the king his ascension to the kingship was uncontested, and he received all the training that the obvious heir would receive, most notably military strategy training. His father seems to have ruled for quite a long time, as he’s still alive in the Odyssey. He seems to have retired from the throne, and now runs a farm in Ithaca not far from the palace.…

The Worth of Religion: Beowulf the Epic vs. Beowulf and Grendel “They swim only out of fear.” “But still, they swim.” Beowulf (Heaney. 2000) is a classic epic where the protagonist Beowulf, a great warrior, embarks on heroic adventures and kings reward him plentifully with gold and praise. However, in the recent Canadian movie adaptation -Beowulf and Grendel (Gunnarsson. 2005)- the director alters the epic, in particular Beowulf’s views concerning religion and fate. This movie takes the classic Beowulf, which frequently mentions God and fate, and makes the character less dependent on the influence of a deity.…

What are truly monsters? In the society that we live in today a monster can be seen as someone who is different from the rest of society. However, there might be a greater purpose to describe what is a monster, and in the Epic poem Beowulf, the author gives us two characters that are judged by society in totally different ways. What readers don't get is that the author has shown us two characters that the old culture has judged as monsters and heros, but he wants us to determine what both of them really are based on their actions and characteristics. The unknown author does a great job using Beowulf and Grendel to help describe two different archetypes, and have the audience left with the question what really makes up your character?…

The Christian author of Beowulf needed to make the epic enticing towards the Christian audience, while still incorporating Pagan influences. The assimilation of the two religions is also relevant to the major theme of good versus evil. Beowulf is constructed as a parallel to Jesus Christ as a retelling of Christ’s story, and the Christian allusions serve as the good in the epic. Contrastingly, Grendel and the other monsters represent the nefarious Pagan elements. Although the epic of Beowulf is a conflict between good and evil, the power of God rules profoundly over the evil aspects of Pagan…
