One way Czar Nicholas II and Farmer Jones are similar were that they both reacted with violence. During the revolution, the people of Russia were protesting about food shortages, a crowd of peaceful marchers stood at the Winter Palace in St. Petersburg asking for civil liberties and peace, but all of a sudden, the policemen opened fired towards the crowd, killing around 130 innocent individuals which later set off more strikes and riots as the revolution went on, this day is marked as Bloody Sunday (Brown 14). Similarly, in chapter one of Animal Farm, the animals were singing their anthem Beasts of England, which had awoken Farmer Jones, and he believed that it was a fox that caused him to wake up. Due to believing that, Jones got his gun and shot out his window six times. Another thing both leaders had in common were that they lived in luxury. During the Russian Revolution, it was known that Czar Nicholas II and his family resided at the Winter Palace in St. Petersburg. A palace is a large extravagant home that usually were occupied by high-ranking members of society. In a like manner, Farmer Jones’ farmhouse was described with having luxurious things, such as feathered mattress beds, horsehair sofas, and a lithograph of Queen Victoria. Eventually, both the Czar and Jones were forced into exile. This was shown when the Czar’s generals forced Nicholas to abdicate his throne and had two members of the Duma delivered to his private railcar to acquire his withdrawal (Brown 15).
