Gothic is a type of literature that creates a scary type of feeling and it involves murders and mysteries. Both And Then There Were None and the short story “MS Found In a Bottle” were gothic texts. They both have lots of similarities and differences about the setting, writing styles, and curiosity. Suspicion was a key similarity between the two stories. However, in And Then There Were None suspicion is used to fuel the plot. In “MS Found In a Bottle, suspicion is used to contribute to the meaning of the story. Suspicion in “And Then There Were None” was major. When people were being murdered, everyone had a lot of suspicion towards the group of guests. Similarly, in “MS Found In a Bottle”, when everyone was thrown overboard, the two men who survived were picked up by another ship. They were suspicious of where they were headed to. The writing styles between the two are mostly different. Christie uses suspicion throughout the whole story, whereas Poe uses it in some parts to keep us guessing. The tones in both stories were both suspicious and abnormal. The setting in And Then There Were None and “MS Found In a Bottle” are different, but neither are in a city or country.
