Rome and the United States are very similar civilizations. In the beginning, both cultures overthrew kings and formed republics. Also, Ancient Romans and modern Americans struggled placing executive power in one person. Lastly, both civilizations gained an enormous amount of land. The development of Rome’s government over time is similar to how the United States has developed.
Both cultures overthrew kings and formed republics. Rome was a city ruled by Etruscan kings, who were overthrown for Rome to become a republic, a system of power where citizens take part. America was founded similarly two thousand years later when they overthrew the British king to create their republic, the USA, a nation to be differentiated from England and the rule of King James. Ancient Roman Patricians are comparable to today’s “1%” because they had almost total control of the government. Also, Rome had some morals that shouldn’t have been adopted but we did anyways, like slavery. Rome was a model to shape our government, but also an example of what we could be if leaders are power-hungry.
