Coming from a Sudanese background, I am always interested in learning about my ancestors. When it comes to Nubians and the Kush Empire, it is not as well researched as the Egyptians. While there are some influences of ancient Egypt, the Nubians had their own cultures and traditions. Nubian leaders had tombs built like the Egyptians but at a smaller scale but the carvings and statues were very different from the Egyptians. The influence of Islam is what differentiates different Nubian groups. Starting at northern Sudan, the Nubians in the area are heavily influenced by Arab Muslims. It can be heard the men chanting Madeeh in the background in the scene where men were building a wall with mud. Madeeh is Sudanese chants that are about the Prophet Mohammad (Pbuh). When moving south, the influence of Islam lessens. So the Nubians in the Nuba Hills, they are not
