Similarities Between Abraham Lincoln And Bill Clinton

America has been around for 239 years, and in those years 44 presidents have held office. Abraham Lincoln and Bill Clinton are two who stand out for being great leaders and great people. Abraham Lincoln was the 16th president from 1861 until 1865 when he was assassinated. Bill Clinton, the 42nd president, served from 1993 to 2001; he was inaugurated at age 46. Both men served the country during times of tragedy, but told great speeches that helped piece America back together again. For Lincoln that was his Gettysburg Address which he told at the dedication of a military cemetery in Gettysburg, Pennsylvania, during the American Civil War. For Clinton it was the “Oklahoma Speech” he told when the Alfred P. Murrah Federal Building was bombed in Oklahoma City. …show more content…
In the Gettysburg Address, Abraham Lincoln says: “It is for us the living, rather, to be dedicated here to the unfinished work which they who fought here have thus far so nobly advanced.” and, “…that from these honored dead we take increased devotion to that cause for which they gave the last full measure of devotion…” In other words, Lincoln is saying the Americans need to dedicate themselves to cleaning up the mess of the war and finishing what the soldiers started. Similarly, Clinton quotes in his speech, “…you must try to pay tribute to your loved ones by continuing to do all the things they left undone, thus ensuring they did not die in vain...” Clinton is illustrating the same message of “finishing what ‘they’ started” and not letting people die in
