There are many similarities in Mexican schools to schools in the United States, United Kingdom, Nigeria and Japan. All of these countries have primary education that star somewhere around age six and goes through age twelve. All of these countries provide public education in this age group. There are some differences between the countries. Mexico, United Kingdom, United States and Nigeria from Japan have low literacy rate in those countries when compared to Japan. Japan has an extremely high literacy rate. One of the reasons why the Japan schools have such a high literacy rate is because Japan is a mono-cultural society. Nigeria has many different tribes that speak many different dialects. Settling on a national dialect is difficult. …show more content…
My opinion is formed due to the fact that students who cannot read and a high level or on grade level are much less likely to be successful in academics. Therefore as educational leaders we must find a way to close this gap. Research states that students from low socioeconomic households read at much lower levels than students that come from upper socioeconomic households. This gap widens each and every year. One thing as leaders we can do to help close this gap is develop literacy programs and summer reading program that target low socioeconomic students. Students that read at least 20 minutes per day at a retention rate of 85% continues to grow over the summer. One thing that we could do is have Accelerated Reader activities for low socioeconomic students over the summer. These programs will allow the summer loss that is typically seen for this group to be less each and every year. Such a program should have a positive effect on the literacy …show more content…
My weakness is sometimes I have an inability influence others to see the world through my lens. My goal is to play an essential role in the education of students from all area of the world, both minority and majority and show both groups that diversity is important to both. Diversity is seen as something that serves only minority students. It serves majority students every bit as much, bringing those in the dominant group to far greater understanding of the complexity of being in the majority and the

Reading is the foundation of everything “Whether you want to be a reading teacher or not you’re going to be one” says Patty Wagenknecht. She was a language arts teacher for 30 years after that she was on the School Board for 12 years. Reading is something many people take for granted; in fact, it is sometimes a struggle to persuade people to read at all. In schools, there are typically a group of students that are “below-average” who have an “I don’t care” type of attitude towards learning and reading. This attitude causes them to receive poor grades in their classes and they make life strenuous on themselves. On the other spectrum are the areas where being able to read means you have great intelligence and great privilege. Reading and books aren’t as common and people aren’t gaining as much information as they could.…

The Reading Recovery program has proven to be a highly effective short-term intervention of one-to-one tutoring for low-achieving first graders. Individual students receive a half-hour lesson each school day for 12 to 20 weeks with a specially trained Reading Recovery teacher. The measurement of early literacy behaviors is as complex as the process of early literacy behaviors. Clay developed the Observation Survey of Early Literacy Achievement, which is the primary assessment tool used in the Reading Recovery program. Clay (2002) argues for continual and systematic observation of students reading behaviors over time.…

The article, “Mexican Americans Don’t Value Education based on the Mythmaking and Debunking”, dismisses the common myth of Mexican Americans not valuing education. The article debunks this myth by discussing the common stereotypes in literature that has been published about Mexican-Americans performing poorly in school and lack of parental involvement. One example is how Mexican Americans don’t do well in school due to their lack of English skills, but the article counters this by blaming the structure of school rather than blaming the victims. Many Mexican-Americans grow up learning Spanish because that’s what is spoken in their household and I was one of those kids until I started school. I think it did take me longer to learn things because…

For schools in today’s society, I believe the best way to continue would be to slightly modify the approach for reading instruction depending on the preferred learning method of each child. Additionally, pressure from parents to have the children reading as early as possible should be reduced. Whenever possible, adults should aim to reduce the stress projected on young children to rush through the process of learning to read, especially for homeschoolers. Although the current system for public and private schools use to instruct reading ability isn’t a failure, it could use some adjustments. To insist children must read early to achieve an unnecessary standard is to potentially change the course of their education by unintentionally turning them against reading.…

I was not aware that the United States ranked 18th among the nations as far as reading was concerned. It’s hard to digest that statement. How could a nation with so many resources be behind in regards to reading? The United States should be the example for the other nations; it’s very unfortunate that our country was inferior to other nations in regards to reading. Starting in kindergarten to about third grade; this period is marked with excitement and magical experiences as children begin to read their favorite books independently.…

Although school is considered to be a universal education to children through a certain system, different countries take on their own way of education their young ones. These differences are due to many different reasons such as culture, government, and location but even when they are similar, the school system differs. For example, Mexico and the United States share a border and both have a republic government, but their way of educating contrasts one another. The most prominent cause of the differences in the school system in these two countries is the amount of money available. Mexico lacks the funds that Americans take for granted daily, and Mexico is a poor country that does not have the money to spend on schools like the United States can.…
