Religions have been around even before records were taken down. There are hundreds of religions with their own beliefs and views. Many religions are complete opposites while others are similar like having the same foundation for spreading their views. The afterlife according to many cultures can be a controversial subject, especially when it boils down to their beliefs. Two important religions that are seen as polar opposites in the views of afterlife are Christianity and Islam. Though these two religions seem like they could not be more different from the other, they actually have similarities that most would never expect. Who gets to go, what happens to the body, and the rewards of the afterlife are parts of both Christianity and Islam.…
Eastern and western religions are very different in terms of their belief systems and character. Hinduism and Taoism are the religions I looked at among the eastern religions while Islam and Christianity are among the western religions I looked at. Western and Eastern religions have similarities within their regions but differ when the regions become divided into east and west. They have different beliefs in terms of religious nature, views of God and main concerns.…

Throughout history people have turned to sacred beliefs for sense of well-being, gathering with others whom share their interests, or simply for a guided way of life to live by. Some of the world cultures have rituals, sacred grounds, even objects of common use to represent the practices in which they hold so dearly, for the majority of cultures, religion, typically with a worshiped deity, if not more than one, and a literary central religious text to live by, is how the rest of the religious world practices their beliefs. The largest of those religions is Christianity, making up 33.0% of the World Population, followed primarily in North and South America as well as Europe (Schaefer, 2015, p. 308). Christianity is defined as “the religion based…
Confucianism is a NONTHEIST religion in which people act more ethical on decisions rather than metaphysical. The main goal was to develop the perfect gentlemen (junzi) through acts of moral cultivation. If a man had a guest…
Confucius believed that there were five key relationships, each with a superior and inferior. This differed form Hinduism's caste system because in document seven, it explains how each caste was superior than the next, "The Brahmins, The Kshatriyas, The Vaisvas, The Sudras, and the other sub-castes". Confucius was seen as "respectful in his serving of his superiors and kind in governing the people" (Document 4). He followed his own teachings that affected how a son treated the father and vice versa. Confucianism also wanted an orderly society that was full of happiness like Hinduism. According to document 3, "overcome the angry man with gentleness". Although Hinduism taught that, Confucianism did the same. Followers of Confucius were told to treat superiors with respect even if they did not receive any themselves. Although Confucianism and Christianity did not collide, they both agreed that, "Blessed are the merciful: for they shall obtain mercy" (Document 9). Confucianism and Christianity both believed that be a good person, even if people are not good to you. This affected the follower's families. Families were a very large part in the mind of Confucius like they are a big part in modern day societies. Filial piety was the most prominent aspect of families. Filial piety had the children respecting their parents through thoughts and actions. As a result of everyone knowing their place, whether superior or…
In Chinese Confucius thinking, males were associated with Heaven while females were associated with Earth, which explains why men were set as the head of the family. Also, the religions in the Han Dynasty and Roman Empire encouraged being good to others. In China, Confucians believed in the idea of ren, which emphasizes being benevolent, considerate, kindhearted, and noble. In Rome, Christians encouraged loving everyone, even one’s enemies. According to Jesus, one should “’love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you.’” In addition, the Chinese and the Romans absorbed foreign religions into their regions. Buddhism was introduced to China by Central Asian traders, and though it provided people with the stability that they desired, it was only practiced modestly. When Christianity began in Rome, it spread slowly until it gained support from the emperors, which boosted the spread into the rest of the region. The view of gods differed between the Chinese and the Romans. Though the Chinese believed that their emperors ruled by the Mandate of Heaven, there was no emphasis on a higher power that was thought to be revolved…

The first theme that both Confucianism and Communism share is the absence of a present, and omnipotent God. In Confucianism there is not a present, omnipotent, God. Not having God is important when talking about Communism. Some could argue Tian is a deity to Confucianism but instead Tian is translated to Heaven and the role within Confucianism is to achieve harmony between Heaven and Earth, so Confucians do not treat Tian like an all powerful God like other religions have. Communist ideals do not allow for society to believe in religion, but more specifically in a god. In Confucianism there is no god, therefore under Communism it is acceptable. Vladimir Lenin, Communist leader from Russia said, “We do not believe in God” (Lenin). Confucianism did not have a god, and it was not a religion either. “The words “religion” and “philosophy” did not exist in Chinese vocabulary until late 19th century” (Küng, Ching 63). Confucianism was founded as a teaching, and under Communism, teaching was allowed but religion was not. Confucianism and Communism also share the idea of virtue. For Confucianism, virtue is what inspires and individual to study, unselfishly help with public service, and be kind within human relationships (Peter Dass). Communism virtues are similar when it comes to knowledge and public service. Under Communism everyone would be serving the public and in an ideal Communist society, the people would do so with the responsibility of not complaining or fighting back. Communism relied heavily on the support of the people and the Communist government could use the teachings of Confucianism to “guide religion to adapt to socialism behind the Chinese Communist Party” (Fisher 159) similar to how the Han Dynasty used Confucianism to model laws. The final theme shared between Confucianism and Communism is the idea of the greater good over the good of one’s self. “A sage is not…

Confucianism heavily stresses on human conduct over belief in God. It focuses on the ethics and personal moral attainment, social relationships, good environment, and creating “the good” in the here and now. Most importantly Confucians believe that society can be saved through Jen ( Fisher 188). Their understanding of moral modification is filial piety: Hsiao, to one’s parents. Their human nature is having respect to those that are superior to them. It’s ultimate principle is all about the brotherhood of…
