In the Iroquois, Mother Earth randomly got pregnant and gave birth to her two children. Eventually, the children got into a fight, Sky Woman came to intervene, and in all the chaos Sky Woman got her head ripped off by the children. it was then thrown up into the sky, creating the moon.
Like the Iroquois, the Judeo-Christian story has an unfortunate event that involves the kids. Unlike the Iroquois story, the Lord requests sacrifices prior to the atonement of Jesus Christ. Cain was just a farmer, whereas Abel was a herdsman and when it came down to sacrifices, Abel was able to offer his fattiest and most succulent animal. Whereas Cain was only able to offer some of his crops. The Lord favored Abel 's sacrifice over Cain’s, and this made Cain very jealous of his brother. They believe in punishment, they believe that humans are corrupt, but, prior to them disobeying and eating from the Tree of knowledge, he created them as pure beings. Stated in Genesis 1:31 is that “God saw everything that he had made, and, behold, it was very good. The Native Americans, however, don’t share these beliefs. They believe more in “it’s only a bad habit”, and “forgive and forget”. In the Iroquois story the animals were very helpful to Sky Woman. The time that they lived together, they lived in unison. Since all animals were helpful to Sky Woman, they have become sacred and are protected by the Natives. Whites, however, don’t act the same way towards animals.
