Differences: Similarities Between The Samurai And Knights

Imagine: Two warriors from different sides if the globe shared more similarities than differences. They each have great honor and values. Both of them fought to keep their land safe. The two warriors vowed an oath to their lord,, but at what cost? The samurai and knights left an important mark on the world and will forever be remembered.. In honor to the samurai and knights I will write a small time line showing some important moments in their and their kingdoms career. In 1066, William the Conqueror from France became king of England, and established the feudal system in England.. Next in 1099 European knights joined the first Crusade and captured Jerusalem. Then in 1192 Minamoto Yoritomo becomes the first shogun with the samurai class on …show more content…
In Document A: Social Pyramids by: multiple sources the charts say that the Emperor in Japan is at the same level as the Pope of Europe. (note: Japan is 1st, Europe is 2nd)The Shogun is at the same level as the King, Samurai is at the level of the lesser lords, the Peasant Farmers are at the level of Knights. While the Artisans/ trades people are at the same level as the Artisans and Merchants, and the Merchants are at the same level as the Peasant Serfs. It is true that the samurai are higher in rank that the knights but that doesn’t mean that the knights have less honor and respect as the samurai. They both serve their lords in military service in exchange for land. In Document B: Quotes by: Catharina Blomberg both samurai and knight both required large amounts of land. But a difference was a knight's relationship with his lord is was a specific legal document while a samurai’s was hereditary (Hereditary- passed down) A samurai gave three lives to his lord his past, present, and future lives. In Document C: Training by; PBS series their childhood training is over at the age 14. But a lot more step is to become a knight at around the age 21. Document D: Armor by: Terry Bennett there is a lot more similarities in this one. Like they both wore helmets, armor, and used the same weapons like swords and bows. Some of the differences are that the knights suit was a lot heavier than the samurai, the samurai’s right arm was free to grab their bow a knight wore full body suit.
