The books The Hunger Games and Divergent have a lot of similarities and differences, from the characters to the events that occurred during the story. Both books have similar storylines that the protagonists, Tris from Divergent, and Katniss from The Hunger Games, has to go through. However, Tris and Katniss both have qualities that are similar and some that are totally different, which separates these two novels and make them more interesting. Nonetheless, Tris is a more developed, more believable, and more realistic character than Katniss.

However, from the beginning, we see that Tris has many sides of herself: brave, smart, and selfless, making her divergent. In contrast to Katniss who only has one side of herself, which is where she is constantly hunting with Gale to take care of her family. In the Capitol, she could not reveal that side of herself without revealing the only thing she cares about, making Katniss have no personality at all. Since people would be more likely to have more than one side of themselves during their lives, Tris would be a more realistic character. Another comparison between the two protagonists would be their experiences. In Divergent, Tris had to learn how to fit into Dauntless by trying as hard as she could to learn how to fight, handle a gun, and face her fears. Although she is an Abnegation transfer, she still strives to improve in order for her to remain in Dauntless and not fail initiation. During that, she had to use the process of trial and error when trying to achieve a new skill while constantly being observed by Dauntless leaders. Even though she lost to Peter in the beginning, Tris eventually won against Molly in the end. “We find in her someone like us, someone who is flawed, yet growing, who is weak but getting stronger, who is lost but finding herself. Someone complicated. Smart. Kind. And brave." Katniss, on the other hand, already knew how to use a bow and …show more content…
The protagonists’ similarities shows that they have some sides of themselves that are the same or similar but the differences also shows that they each are a unique individual. However, Tris’s differences shows us that she is a more realistic character than Katniss. She had to try to fit in with a whole different group of people that came from different backgrounds than her own but also try to learn new skills and strives to improve at the same time. Katniss however, had the skills needed just for what she was going to have to do which is really unlikely to happen in real life. Although both protagonists have their advantages in their own ways, Tris is a more believable and realistic character than

In both stories, the protagonist starts off independent then develop into heroic leaders of rebellion. Also in both stories, the setting is in a depressing environment where people are suppressed and the antagonist is an overpowering control freak. Throughout the movie The Hunger Games, Katniss experiences several difficult situations similar to McMurphy that lead to her developing a vigorous personality by the end of the movie. For example when Katniss represents her district in the annual hunger games, she becomes strong because of the struggles she experienced like watching other tributes die and almost dying herself. Both protagonists were developed with the use of an enemy that manipulate people.…

Heroines depicted in new emerging dystopian literatures are not only slowly breaking the stereotypical representations of youth, but are also challenging gender stereotypes. Thus, inspiring the teenage audience and providing this young generation with strong female role models. TWTWB, by John Marsden, and The Hunger Games, by Suzanne Collins, are two examples of such literatures. Both of these texts portray strong female heroines- Ellie Linton (from TWTWB) and Katniss Everdeen (from The Hunger Games) – who are faced by adverse circumstances which they overcome in bold, and diverse ways.…

While I enjoyed the idea behind The Hunger Games because it exposed the corruption of the rich and exploitation of the poor, I did not fully appreciate your portrayal of the heroine Katniss Everdeen because of the lack of character development. My main critique of Katniss is that she did not act like the heroine you attempted to portray her as. She was extremely selfish throughout almost the entire series. In the beginning of the first book, Katniss volunteered in place of Prim, which made her seem like a righteous person.…

Athletic, clever, compassionate, modest, and rebellious are all words that explain what makes Katniss Panem’s heroine. In the Hunger Games, the most important similarities the movie shared with the book was making Peeta initiate the idea of him and Katniss being lovers. This is so significant because, without this, most of the main events in the book and movie would never have taken place. For one, this angle would have left Katniss to be just another face in the crowd, not making her stand out, which also meant fewer sponsors, decreasing her chances of survival. However, the most important reason for this is because Katniss would have left Peeta to die when he needed her the most and she would not have been able to plant the small seeds of defiance against the capital. In the movie and novel, the games take a surprising turn when an announcement goes out that…
