My analysis of Simba as a leader begins with his enthusiasm; although this varies throughout the film, Simba is an energetic and enthusiastic participant in whatever lifestyle he is living. He somberly admits to his son “Simba, I'm only brave when I have to be. Being brave doesn't mean you go looking for trouble.” All leaders struggle at some point, but must rise to the challenge to do what is right and invest in their followers. Pride is not part of the equation either, as it is for self-interest and only causes trouble in the long run. Always with care, Mufasa kept his goals in mind.
The Lion King shows layers of leadership and the many complications that arise when the wrong or under-prepared leader is thrown into their position. It reminds children from a young age that they have choices they can make to shape themselves and their futures, even if they do not yet understand the seriousness of those decisions. While Simba eventually did what was right, he needed to take time to understand what it really meant to rule, and how to do it for unselfish
