The pilot pushed the throttles forward to the stops and the plane speeded up. The jet engines roared as he tweaked the throttles until the “max continuous thrust” light illuminated. Then, the sound dulled to a constant hum and finally, the squealing pitch of the engines. And the ground fell away beneath them as they left the runway.
Marci glanced out of the window, to the rainy streets below. The entire city looked like some sixties abstract impressionist street scene. A cityscape painting created with a palette knife with sweeping areas of flat color that brought the dreariness out and created the rain effects of the objects de couleur. The plane took a sharp turn, out over the San Francisco Bay and circled as they gained altitude. The clouds became a layer of light gray cotton candy as the plane leveled itself.
