Silver, also known as white metal, has been used for many years in jewellery and coins and was a symbol of wealth and prestige. But today, silver's primary use is industrial because it resists corrosion and oxidation. New innovations like cell phones or solar panels are constantly emerging to take advantage of silver's unique properties.

Silver is a precious metal because it is rare and valuable. It's non-toxic, antimicrobial qualities make it useful in medicine and pharmaceutical products. Silver ions act as a catalyst by absorbing oxygen, which kills bacteria by interfering with their respiration. Because of this antibiotic property silver had an essential role in medicine for thousands of years. Before the use of antibiotics, silver foil was wrapped around wounds to help healing, and silver-protein complexes were ingested to fight illness.
