Shackleton explains in his argument that men have a higher pay because they are willing to work in harsh conditions, such as working unsocial hours and working outside in all weathers. While that may be true for a specific job, that doesn't necessarily explain why there is a pay gap all over the United States. Not all jobs that women and men work have those requirements. Back in the day, men were the main providers for their household, but in today's society, women provide just as much for their family.…

In the modern world, there is a tendency to fetishize hard work. Manual labour is viewed by those who may not necessarily practice it as a noble enterprise, giving its own unique satisfaction. Though this is true in many cases, the unfortunate reality is that working hard all day, every day exacts a brutal toll on body and mind. Not only does work often take away energy that might otherwise be spent on constructive personal pursuits, it historically paid only the bare minimum needed to keep workers coming back to the factory, mine, or mill, regardless of their ability to survive, let alone thrive on such meagre compensation. Constant danger, active and passive oppression by local and national power structures all contribute to the deprivation…

With women working the same jobs as men, it is only fair that they should be paid the same as the men working with them.…

Unfortunately, these stereotypes, particularly those describing women have hindered their ability to be treated equally to men. Many of these stereotypes have to do with the work place and home life.…

In our modern times with ever-changing attitudes, it is becoming more important to distinguish between sex and gender. Sociologists describe sex as the biological differences between a male and a female, particularly anatomically and physiologically (Newman, 2016). Moreover, it helps to explain the genitalia differences, as well as our differences in hormones. Some may see sex as more difficult to define – it is not as easy as black and white – and may be seen as something continuous instead, rather than only male and female.…
