Faithism Introduction Mahatma Gandhi once said “a friendly study of the world’s religion is a sacred duty” (Mahatma Gandhi). This quote is important because it tells us how everyone should read about the world’s religions because it would create a better understanding of the world’s cultures (Alex Gorge).Faithism is when someone’s language,culture,religion,faith,etc. is being disrespected. People usually think their religion is the best, therefore other religions should be ignored. Due to Sikhs and their religious beliefs, they are discriminated for the following reasons.

Many Sikhs cant apply for jobs in North America because some places don’t hire people who wear turbans. Since a turban is worn for religious purposes, employee’s have a right to ask to wear religious cloths at work. It’s not right for someone to refuse hiring a person just because they belong to a different county and follow different beliefs.

At Home Depot a security guard was asked to remove his turban and put on a safety hat. The manager was really angry. The manager of Home Depot said “You can leave the workplace if its that hard for you to be prepared to take off a turban and put on a hard hat” (Mark O’Neille). Another example is about the Irish court. In 2013 the Irish court made a new law that Sikhs can’t wear turbans to work. This is a form of discrimination against Sikhs because in order for a person to live, they need to work so that they can get money to pay for food, shelter, etc. If people have no money then life would be horrible for them. Most Sikhs need jobs, but in Ierland they cant go to work unless they take off their turban. The only way Sikhs can work is by taking their turban off.
