Shingles is a pain rash that is caused by a viral infection. Shingles is caused by the varicella-zoster virus. This virus is also the virus that causes chickenpox. After one has had chickenpox, varicella-zoster vies lies inactive in nerve tissue near his or her spinal cord and brain. Numerus years later, the virus could possibly reactivate as shingles. There are numerous signs and symptoms that resemble shingles. Among these include, but not limited to: sensitivity to touch, itching, pain, and fluid-filled blisters that break open and crust over.
