Sports are not only fun and competitive, but they teach valuable life lessons. Most kids are put into sports by parents, not to keep them active but to give them these lessons. I grew up as one of these kids, I have played a wide range of sports, consisting of baseball, soccer, hockey, and swimming. Each one of these sports has taught me lessons I could not have gotten anywhere else, but the most significant lessons I have learned, are from hockey. These lessons consist of teamwork, responsibility, and respect.
I first started playing hockey when I was eight years old. The season had already started, so I had joined in the middle. The first time I stepped foot on the ice was in a game, I had little to no experience of skating prior. Of course

We were excited to play the game. In the state championship the atmosphere was different, there are ceremonies at the beginning and end of the game, along with all your family and friends watching. When we stepped out on the ice I could hear the crowd in the stands, they were excited. The opening ceremony consisted of the National Anthem and an introduction of every player, when your name was called you would skate to center ice and return to the bench. This was an amazing experience, it gave you a sense of accomplishment and pride. Once the ceremony came to a clause the game was underway. Going into the third period my coach put me in front of the net, and it paid off, I scored a goal! it put my team on top, I was so happy I could help bring my team closer to a championship. Sadly the other the team was able to come back and win the game with only one minute left in the game. It was a devastating loss, we had worked so hard to get there. After the game was over they had the closing ceremony, where they present the winning team with trophies and medals while we watched. Once they all received the trophies the winning team did something I did not expect, all the players came over to my team, shook our hands, and said good game. This was when I learned about respect. During that very special baseball game I was beasting at shortstop. Every time a ball was hit my way I would either catch it or scoop it up off the ground depending on what type of hit it was but if the ball came my way my fans already knew what was going to happen. My fans already knew that I was going to get the batter out or get a double play and most of the time I did. It felt so great knowing that I helped my team achieve excellence and earn victories. My team had a very strong and unstoppable defense and if it wasn't for our teamwork, we wouldn't have had such a successful season.…

Fear not your best friend fear Eagerly waiting for the sound of the final bell ending the game, I limped back to the locker room ashamed of failing my teammates once again. With my jersey drooping below my knees, I dreaded every second of ice time starring at a swarming pool of merciless giants. Receiving the puck gave you the opportunity to score, but for me it meant running into a wall. Running into other players sent me flying through the air before gasping for air and landing dazed on the verge of unconsciousness. The condemnation of failing to contribute to my team or participating in the physical aspect of hockey reminded me I was in a dark world of self-loathing because I couldn't accept this fact.…

The progress I have made since when I first began playing is immeasurable. I have come as far as I have in hockey through all the years of support from my father, because he’s always been happy to watch me play competitively.…

While growing up, sports have always been a big part of my life. At the age of only six years old, my parents first signed me up for coach pitch softball. Little did they know that I was going to fall in love with the game and that they were going to have to spend countless hours at softball fields during the spring each year watching me play. Being so young when I first started playing, winning and losing did not matter at all. As long as I got to throw, hit, and catch the ball, I was happy.…

The B-Teams game started and I was on the field for kick return and I got the ball and everything just slowed down and I took advantage of this so I took the ball and ran straight up the sidelines for a touchdown! Looking back, there were a few other people close to me, but this helped bring our team out of our our losing streak back into our winning streak, but the game wasn't over, two quarters remained left in the B game, and this was just the start of the game that I will look back on and say this was the game that started it all.…

I learned many valuable lessons from this book which gave me a different view on evolution and life. My first take was that species with shorter life spans evolve quicker and benefit the species as a whole. Before reading this, I believed organisms with short life spans were weak because they couldn’t live long. These organisms with short life spans were able to reproduce way quicker than most organisms. Rapidly, they can evolve which benefits the species as a whole which helps it achieve the ultimate goal of life, to survive and reproduce.…
