The reason i choose this cover for the great gatsby is because the suit represent Jay Gatsby wealth and I also didn’t give gastby a face because nobody really knows how he got his wealth. The focus in the novel/movie is on jay’s and the people around him. Characters major or minor are described by fitzgerald much more clearly and greater precision. All we know is that jay life is eccentric. We really don’t know how he made his money but there a couple reference to a rigged 1919 world series game. When ask what was his line of work he claims to be in the drugstore business(slang for bootlegger). Fitzgerald never really got deep into what jay was doing to get his fortunes. ‘The Great Gatsby’ is a novel published in 1925 by American author F. Scott Fitzgerald. Midwest-born Nick Carraway details Jay Gatsby, a mysterious millionaire obsessed with the notion of being reunited with Daisy Buchanan, a woman he lost five years earlier. This definition of the American dream, however, is challenged by Fitzgerald; suggesting that the American dream became nothing but the pursuit for happiness through materialism (having a big house, car, etc.). This paper will explore and analyse the techniques that Fitzgerald used to undermine the American…

Concealed Countenances Countless numbers of people put on false fronts to conceal their true identities and to hide what they truly are. Some of these people include the immoral characters from The Great Gatsby. Although they do a better job than most people by pretending to be someone they are not, the audience can still see right through their masks. In deeper meaning, these characters present a disguise to others who are too blind to notice their flaws. Not only do they fool each other, but in the beginning of the novel, they mislead the reader.…

James Gatsby is best represented by the color black. Black represents Gatsby by “symbolizing corruption” (Grok). He demonstrates this corruption by associating himself with characters like Meyer Wolfsheim. When Gatsby reveals to Nick Carraway what Wolfsheim has done, he hesitates before saying, “He’s the man who fixed the World’s Series back in 1919” (73). The saying, “You are who you surround yourself with”, shows how Gatsby surrounded himself with criminals, and eventually became one himself.…

Both originate from the Midwest, however Daisy lives in East Egg which is considered to be classier, more upscale, and respectable than gaudy, fresh, and disreputable West Egg where Gatsby lives. This social status divide in Daisy and Gatsby’s relationship dates back to when they were first courting five years ago: “... he had deliberately given Daisy a sense of security; he let her believe that he was fully able to take care of her. As a matter of fact he had no such facilities” (Fitzgerald 149). In the blooming of their relationship, a desperate Gatsby deceived a gullible Daisy into thinking that he was financially at her level and could provide for her romantically and financially. Francisco Coradal-Cougat was a famous Spanish artist who created the classic melancholy cover F. Scott Fitzgerald used for his award winning novel, The Great Gatsby. The striking cover is called “Celestial Eyes” and was painted in 1924. According to the Oxford dictionary, celestial means “positioned in or relating to the sky, or outer space as observed in astronomy”. The title the cover was given is very straightforward and practical, for the haunting face he drew almost looks as if it is floating in the dark blue, nighttime sky. The artwork symbolizes many things in the book, including the tear, the city, the eyes, and the two women in them.…
