Significance Of The Green Light In The Great Gatsby

Gatsby believed in the green light. This is one of the very last lines of the book it is very profound and important. The novel goes into depth about how Gatsby views life. Gatsby's dreams are very recurring and prominent throughout the novel. Some of the very last word that we hear from Nick is that, “Gatsby believed in the green light”(180). Perhaps, this statement is the most important things said throughout the whole novel. Gatsby believed in the the green light because he believed in the American Dream. The green light symbolizes Gatsby's optimism,, and failure. At the beginning of the book, the green light was a symbol of Gatsby's desire to better his life. Gatsby knew that in order to get Daisy back he would need to make himself rich because true love was not enough of a reason for Daisy to marry him.
